Ancient Mamal Shiva Temple Located At Pahalgam, Kashmir

These Are Some Pictures Of Commemorative Boards And Exterior And Interior Pictures Of Ancient Mamal Shiva Temple Located At Pahalgam, Kashmir, India. Mamal Shiva Temple Was Built By King Jayasimha On The Right Bank Of The River Lidder And Dedicated To Lord Shiva. There Is Also A Pure Water Spring Covered By a Basin In Front Of Mamal Shiva Temple. The Temple is Considered to Be The Oldest Temple of Kashmir Valley Dating Back To 5th Century.
It Is Believed That The Spring In The Court Of The Mamal Temple Is The Same Spring Under Which Parvati Bathed And Had Asked Lord Ganesha To Safe Guard The Entrance. Lord Shiva Was Denied Entry By Little Ganesha Which Left Him In Fury. Shiva In Anger Decapitated Ganesha And Later At The Request of Parvati Brought Him Back To Life.

It Is Written On The Commemorative Board Of Mamal Temple Erected By Govt. Of J & K Directorate Of Archives Archaeology & Museum (SGR):
'HISTORY OF MAMAL TEMPLE'

It Contains An Old Pedestal And A Shive-Ling.
A Spring Of Remarkable Pure Water Rises Under The Site Of Temple. Its Water Is Enclosed In A Basin In Front Of The Stairs.'
