AGAKHAN PALACE

These Are Some Pictures Of Commemorative Stone And Splendid Building Of Agha Khan Palace Built In 1892 A.D By Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III Located At Pune, India. Aga Khan Palace Is A Majestic Building. The Palace Was An Act Of Charity By The Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III Who Was 48Th Spiritual Head Of Muslim Ismaili Sect. The Sultan Wanted To Help The Poor In The Neighbouring Areas Of Pune, Who Were Drastically Hit By Famine.
The Palace Is Closely Linked To The Indian Freedom Movement As During 'Quit India Movement' It Served As A Prison For Mahatma Gandhi, His Wife Kasturba Gandhi, His Secretary Mahadev Desai And Sarojini Naidu from 9 August 1942 to 6 May 1944. Kasturba Gandhi And Mahadev Desai died In This Palace. Their Samadhies Were Also There In Agakhan Palace Pune. During His Visit To India In 1969, Aga Khan Palace Was Donated To The Indian People By Aga Khan IV. Today The Agakhan Palace Is Working As National Gandhi Memorial Where His Ashes Are Also Kept.

' The Agakhan Palace Also Known As Ghandi National Memorial Was Built In The Year 1892 By The 3rd Agkhan Sultan Mohammed Shah Agakhan Who Was The 48Th Spiritual Head Of The Khoja Ismaili Religion. He Built This Palace Intended To Be A Source Of Employment For The Famine-Struck Villagers In The Surrounding Areas. It Took About Five Years To Complete The Work Of This Palace And One Thousand People Were Employed And They Were Given Full Hearted Wages For Their Livelihood And Twelve Lakhs Was The Cost. In The Year 1969, Prince Karim El Hussenim Agakhan IV Came To India And Donated This Palace With Surrounding Land To The Government Of India Ghandi Smarak Nidhi, New Delhi In Memory Of Mahatma Ghandi And His Philosophy. This Palace Is A National Monument Of India's Freedom Movement. Following The Launch 'Quit India Movement' In 1942, Ghandiji, His Wife Kasturba, Secretary Mahadevbahi Desai Were Interned At The Palace From August 9, 1942 To May 6,1944. Mahadevbahi And Kastubra Passed Away While In Captivity At The Agakhan Palace And Their 'Smadhies' Are Located In The Palace Campus. This Monument Is Simple Memorial To Ghandiji And His Life.The Museum Inside The Palace Complex Has A Rich Collection Of Pictures And Photographs Of The Importance Incidents Of His Life. There Is Also A Wide Assortment Of His Personal Items Including Utensil, Clothes, Mala, Slippers And Also A Letter Written By Ghandiji On The Death Of His Secretary. A Small Amount Of Ghandiji's Ashes Are Kept Near The Smadhies Of Kasturba Ghandi And Mahadevbahi Desai.
The Agakhan Palace Has been Declared As A Monument Of National Importance By The Archaeological Survey Of India Vide Govt. Of India Gazette Notification No S O 255 (E) Dated 3-3-2003.'
