But it didn't fall into The Mohammodan Power permanently until 1622. When after The siege of fourteen months it was conquered by Jahangir who garrisoned it with his troops and appointed a Mughal Governor to keep turbulent chiefs in check. The surrounding District however with The exception of imperial demesne remained in The hands of Katoch Rajas, who claim descent from the ancient rulers of  Trigarth.

When in The second half of the 18th century the Mughal power rapidly declined, Raja Sansar Chand II, succeeded in recovering the ancient fortress of his ancestors. But by carrying his Ambitious designs too far,, he came into conflict. First with the neighbouring hill chiefs, then with The Ghurkhas and finally with Ranjeet Singh to who was compelled to surrender the Kangra fort in 1809. It remained in The hands of Sikhs till 1846 when it was made over to The British Government along with The hills country as for as the Ravi up to 1905 it was garrisoned by British Troops.'
