First commemorative stone reads as below :

'This building and other adjacent buildings belonging to this college and hospital were erected in memory of King Edward VII Emperor of India by the Princes and people of the Punjab in co-operation with Government.

The cost was met from a fund inaugurated during the Lieutenant Governorship of Sir Louis Dane G. C. I. E., C. S. I., and the total outlay amounted to forty lakhs of Rupees of which eighteen lakhs were provided by Public subscription.

Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree Hills was established in 1860. British soldier and statesman Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence was founder of Lawrence schools in Sub-continent to educate the Orphans of British soldiers who died in wars. He died on 4th July 1857 defending Lucknow. Lawrence College was established in memory of Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence. Lawrence College was initially founded as Lawrence Memorial Asylum. Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree is considered as an icon of quality education in Pakistan. The students of Lawrence College Ghora Gali are called as Gallians. The college have its own library having unique pictures galleries of Quaid-e-Azam and Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, splendid College Chapel, museum, gymnasium and hospital. These houses are for students accommodation. There is a small British Cemetery inside Lawrence College Murree. Old Gallian paid their share inThe World Wars and wars between Pakistan and India. Yadgar-e-Shuhada in memory of old Gallian officers of Pakistan Army who Martyred for their country is also built by the college administration. Government of Pakistan issued 20 rupees commemorative coin on eve of 150 years celebrations of Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree. I would like to share 'Gallian code of Honour' that is framed in Lawrence College Murree :

Balak Ram was the son of Sir Ganga Ram Agrawal. Balak Ram Medical College was established in 1944 by the family of Sir Ganga Ram. At the time of Independence, Balak Ram Medical College was abandoned and in 1948, Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore was established in the premises of Balak Ram Medical College. Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore provides Medical education to females only. Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore is affiliated and attached with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore. Now Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore is upgraded as Fatima Jinnah Medical University.


English inscription written on opening stone of Anatomy and Physiology Block reads as under:

Our administration is much happy to share the photographs of English commemoratives stones/ boards and 155 years old British times grand beautiful building of Government College Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Government College Lahore was established in the year 1864 and upgraded as Government College University in 2002. Government College Lahore is the first modern Educational institution of Punjab and one of the oldest institution of Sub-continent. It was opened on 1st January 1864 in the haveli of Dhian Singh/Khushal Singh, in Lahore's Walled City. It shifted to a large Bungalow near Anarkali in 1871 and then it moved to Rahim Khan's Kothi in 1873. The College shifted to present Building in 1876. The construction of present building had started almost in mid 1872 and was completed in 1877.The building of Government College Lahore was designed by W. Purdon Superintendent Engineer and constructed under the supervision of Executive Engineer Kannhaiya Lal.

According to the Prospectus 2017 of GC University Lahore 'This institution takes pride in being the oldest institution of Pakistan, having presently 11263 students and 515 members of faulty. It is a centre of academic excellence and intellectual development in the country. Graduates from the University continue to be leaders in all walks of life, steered by three basic guidinf principles: Efficacy, relevance and quality. GC University provides education from undergraduate level to Ph.D in various disciplines of Science and Technology, Arts and Social Sciences and languages. Various societies such as Dramatic Society and Debating Society also work to enhance the abilities of students. Ravi is name of student magazine at GC University Lahore. The Monogram contains these words 'Courage To Know'. It is a dream of every shining student to get admission in GC University Lahore.

Important historical facts written on commemorative stones erected at Government College University Lahore read as under:

1 -  'This library erected at a cost of over Rs. 1,30,000 to which men and women of all communities subscribed over 75,000. The balance being contributed by the Punjab Government was opened by his Excellency Sir Henry D. Craik, Bart. K. C. I. C., Governor of the Punjab on 24th of October 1939.'
