Building where Sir Syed Ahmed Khan stayed in London, England

This is a photograph of round commemorative stone erected by English Heritage located at Mecklenburg Square London, England. It is erected in memory of great Muslim Reformer and Scholar Sir Syed Ahmed Khan (1817-1898) who stayed in this building when he visited England from 1869 to 1870.


The contributions of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to uplift the status of Muslims in Sub-continent is unforgettable. He was a man of Letters. He founded a Persian School at Muradabad in 1858 and a school Ghazipur in 1862. He founded MAO High school Aligarh in 1875, upgraded as College in 1877 and now working as Aligarh Muslim University. He was the first torch bearer of Modern English Educational system for Muslims in Sub-continent. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was an excellent writer. He wrote many books and journals such as Khutbat e Ahmedia, 'Rasala Asbab e Bagawat e Hind', Aligarh Gazette, Tabeen al Kalam, Aasar al Sanadeed, Tareek Sarkashi e Bajnoor, Rasala Ahkam Tuam Ahal e Kitab, Tafseer al Quran(7 volumes) and Rasala Tehzeeb Akhlaq. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was also founder of some social, educational and political movements. These movements are All India Muhammadan Educational Conference, Muhammadan Defense Association of Upper India and Indian Patriotic Association. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan also opened a Orphan Home at Muradabad. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan remained Member of Legislative Council and Indian Public service commission as well.
