Kotdigi Fort, Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan



These are some photographs of English commemoratives board and hundreds of years old Kotdigi Fort located at town Kot Diji District Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan. Kotdigi Fort was built by Mir Suhrab Khan Talpur, the founder of Talpur Kingdom of Sindh between 1785-1795. The fort is also known as Ahmedabad Fort. English commemoratives board erected at Kotdigi Fort reads as under:

"Kotdigi Fort

Kotdigi Fort formerly known as Ahmedabad Fort is situated about 25 miles east of Indus River at the edge of  Nara Rejistan deserts. Fort was built by Mir Suhrab Khan Talpur the founder of Kingdom between 1785-1795. The fort is constructed on a limestone hill with Kiln baked  bricks locally available, the fort is built on hill which is about 110 feet high, the wall of the fort rise 30 feet high from the base of the hill, the fort is divided in three elephant proof states into three overlapping level. The wall of the fort are segmened by about 50 bastions and its 18 km outer perimeter wall identically follows double crescent shaped contours of hill. The walls and bastions have arrow slits allowing the defenders to attack their enemy in addition to fort 5 kilometers 12 feet wide mud wall was built around the city Remnants of which are still available the fort was established at the edge of desert with objective the it provided advantage over enemies marching from East and in this connection Mirwah canal was built in 1790 specially to irrigate the lands west of the fort to bring water to Military base, the fort was considered invincible and through out history it was never attacked.
