Small British Cemetery inside Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree Hills




These are photographs of English headstones and Small British Cemetery located along the wall of College Chapel Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree Hills, Punjab, Pakistan. Here are graves of Late 19th and early 20th century. Dr. Qamar Zaman Resident Medical Officer of Thurley Hospital Lawrence College Murree told that these were the patients of Thurley Hospital who died of various small diseases due to non availability of antibiotics.

These British men, women and children died far away from their motherland and buried here in Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree Hills. The administration of Lawrence College Ghora Gali Murree Hills deserves much appreciation who still saves the remains of these British people.

English inscription written on gravestones provides this information:

1- 'In affectionate Rememberanc of Alice, the dearly beloved and only daughter of Conductor Thomas and Mary Green Commist Dept. Born 1st Nov 1873, Died 17th April 1889

' Heard the voice of Jesus
"Come unto me and rest"
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast '

2 - 'Peace perfect peace with our loved ones far away in Jesus keeping He is safe.
Sacred to the memory of Harriet, the beloved wife of W. R. Peake. Died 14th August 1887 aged 41 years and of Aggy their infant daughter died 1882. O Lord, Thy will be done'

3 - ' In loving Memory of little Kate, the deeply loved child of Robert Duncan & Maria Crabbe aged one year and two months.'

4- ' Cladys, the dearly child of WM and Joanna Cruick Shank. Born 1892, Died 1894. Thy will be done'.

5-'Darling son William Lawrence Pate who departed from us on May 5th, 1920, aged 7 1/2 years.

In loving Memory of Dear Katie the beloved daughter of J. And E. Quiclfy who departed this life at Murree on the 8th March 1924. Aged 12 years and 3 months.
This lovely bud so young and fair
Called hence by early doom
Just came to show how sweet a flower in Paradise will bloom.

6- ' Reninalo Handford died April 30th 1897. Aged 10 months.

7-' Sacred to the memory of Mary Janet, the dear wife of Rev. George C Peake who fell on sleep June 20th 1902.

8-'The beloved daughter of O. M. Sero and Margaret his wife in Ammn Col. R.F. A. Who died at Ghora Gali Murree on 13th June 1905. Aged 9 years 6 months & 20 days. Erected by her sorrowing parents who deeply mourn her loss.'

9-' Kate Louis Tombleson Died July 22 1914 Aged 22. R. I. P. '

10-'In affectionate Rememberanc of Lilly Payne who fell asleep 5th September 1915. Aged 32 years

11-'In loving Memory of Jack Wright aged 17 years. Died March 1919. Blessed are the jre in heart for they shall see God.'

12-'In loving Memory of Sylvia Byrne late Mistress Lawrence school who was called away. To her heavenly rest on the 2nd October 1921. R. I. P.'

13-'In loving Memory of William James Field aged 15 years and 6 months who passed away on Tuesday July 18th 1922.'
Safely safely pather in
Far from sorrow far from sin
No more children greifs of fears
No more sadness, no more tears
For the life so young and fair
Now hath passed earthly care
God Himself the soul will keep
Giving his beloved sleep.'

14-' In loving Memory of Florence Cladys Collins. Died at the (not readable) on 6th April 19.. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die. '

15-' In loving Memory of Barbara daughter of Robert Curt Rude Brown died at Murree 14-6-31. Aged 17 1/2 years. '

16-' James George the Eldest son of J. N. Blacker, died 4th August 1918. Aged 10 years 7 months.

No stain was on his little heart
Sin had not entered there
Innocence slept sweetly on his
Pale white brow so fair.
He was tok pure for this cold.
Earth too beautiful to stay.
So the Angels came & bore.
Our darling son away. R. I. P'

17-'In memory of our darling mother Mary Crozier who was called to her rest on the 27th October 1924. Aged 55 years. Thy will be done.

Fold her heavenly father in thine arms
And let her ever be
A messenger of
